Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade presented by

Residents of Baltimore and surrounding areas are invited to take part in the 13th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade which celebrates the life of one of America's most influential civil rights, political and social icons. 

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade presented by Forman Mills is held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at noon.  The annual celebration is becoming an event to honor not only Dr. King, but to pay homage to others continuing his legacy. The event steps off at the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Eutaw Street, proceeds south on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and disbands at Baltimore Street. The annual parade honors the immeasurable contributions of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The celebration for the late civil rights activist features entertaining high school and community marching bands, decorative floats, civic organizations, high stepping fraternities, honor and color guards, lively cheerleading squads and equestrian units. Original Harlem Globetrotter and Baltimore resident Charles "Choo" Smith will serve as the 2013 grand marshal.

About Charles "Choo" Smith
Charles "Choo" Smith is a Baltimore native and graduate of Baltimore City College. His athletic skills in basketball garnered him a starting point guard position at the University of the District of Columbia. Smith later went on to become the university’s all time leader in steals and assists, in addition to other accolades. He gained the attention of the world-renowned Original Harlem Globetrotters and played with the team until 2001; thereafter, he played for national and international basketball teams. Considered one of the “greatest dribblers in the world,” Smith took his skills off the basketball court and into the lives of youth throughout Maryland and across the world. He founded the Choo Smith Youth Empowerment, Inc., which helps youths in need through basketball camps and other charitable efforts.
